How Vein Care Gave Me Back My Life

My story begins five years ago. I was thirty-five years old, and at the end of the day my legs were so swollen it hurt to walk. I saw countless doctors, and they all said the same thing: "Lose weight." Yes, I was overweight, but I knew that was not what was causing the swelling and the pain. Eventually I gave up – I figured out a way to tolerate the swelling and the pain. But as time went on, and the older I got, the more my confidence plummeted. It was more than just the uncomfortableness that I felt in my legs; it was becoming something I was extremely self-conscious over. So, I lost the weight – 75 lbs. to be exact. But the swelling and the pain were still there. As silly as this sounds, when I knew I had an evening event I would plan my day to lay in bed with my legs elevated for hours, hoping that it would keep the swelling in my legs down enough for me to be able to wear an elegant, shorter dress to the event and not be embarrassed by the swelling in my legs. The swelling and pain really put a damper on my daily activities.

I heard about the Laser & Vein center the United Way campaign – funny, but Dr. Prasad's wife was the co-chair for the annual campaign. I work for a nonprofit that receives funding from the United Way, so I was introduced to Barbara Prasad through the campaign. The decision to use the Laser & Vein center was literally because of Barbara's dedication to our community.

I met with Dr. Prasad and knew immediately I had made the correct decision in choosing a doctor who could help me. And help me is exactly what he did. In just one visit Dr. Prasad examined my legs and ordered an ultrasound to be done immediately. He knew exactly what was going on and explained everything to me in great detail that I was able to understand. I had questions, and he took the time to sit with me and answer each and every one. I never felt rushed during my appointment and I could sense that Dr. Prasad genuinely cared for not only my health and activity, but also my confidence.

Once the ultrasound was complete I was scheduled to have laser surgery done on both legs. I am not ashamed to admit that I am the world’s biggest baby when it comes to pain tolerance – as a matter of fact, I have no tolerance for pain at all. The prospect of this simple procedure was daunting to me and I was a nervous wreck.

I can honestly say that in both my experiences (left and right legs) the level of care, concern and "coddling" I received was incredible. My nurses were simply amazing, tending to my every need – never rushing or making me feel like "just another patient."

When Dr. Prasad came into the procedure room to begin the treatment, he could sense that I was uneasy – I was on the verge of tears. The nurse covered me with a warm blanket to help me feel "protected." Dr. Prasad took my hand and gave me permission to ask any questions that would help me to feel more at ease. I wanted to know exactly what was going to happen, and he explained exactly what the procedure would entail – even showing me what would be used and how it would be used, explaining what the purpose of each step was. Then he asked me what my hobbies are. I shared with him that I do movie reviews on the radio every week and he used that information to engross me in conversation about various movies he had seen or wants to see – all the while performing the procedure! I was so caught up in conversation that I didn't have time to think about what was going on; I felt very comfortable and very at ease. Before I knew it the treatment was over and Dr. Prasad was patting me on the back and raving about how well I did! :)

The follow-up care was no less amazing – I felt confident that if I needed anything, I could call and it would be taken care of.

Today, just three weeks after both legs have received treatment, I am happy to say that the swelling is no longer in my legs. I have returned to my normal activities and no longer have to be strategic when planning or attending events. I am in my forties, but I’m so excited that I now have the legs that I did when I was in my twenties! ...and I have Dr. Prasad and his team to thank for giving me my life back!

Healthy Legs Let Me Do the Things I Love

My first experience with the Laser & Vein center occurred from my own curiosity. I was down the street at another appointment when I noticed the new facility and decided to stop by. Dr. Prasad was my surgeon for my breast cancer procedure 15 years prior and I was excited to learn he was the doctor at the Laser & Vein center.

I inherited vein disease and passed it down to my two daughters, so we started the treatment process by having the ultrasound and then the procedures. All went successfully well.

As a teen, I struggled with acne, which affected my complexion later in life and left me with scarring. I met with the sweet, beautiful Brandi. She made my many trips for microderms and chemical peels so very pleasant and fun! Now I can go with little or no makeup, which is such a joy!

I taught elementary school for 25 years and am now a Master Gardener. Working outside caused my legs to feel tired and heavy as the day went by. I have a large area of fruits, vegetables, and beautiful flowers. I’m happy to say my treatment at the Laser & Vein center allows me to do what I dearly love doing, along with having better looking legs at the young age of 74!

No More Tired, Aching Legs

For years I was plagued with tired, aching legs. I inherited varicose veins. My maternal Grandpa had varicose veins, as did my mom and sisters. I remember my mom's legs being so bad that she had to wear compression hose year-round... even in the sweltering summers with NO air conditioning in the house! Kids would ask about the "ruffles" on her legs. Her veins were in such bad shape that they looked like ruffles. She was miserable. Years ago she had her veins stripped. That was the current procedure for that day and age. She was miserable after the painful procedure.

Knowing I never wanted my legs to get as bad as my mom's, yet too scared to go through the same procedures she went through, I put up with the day-to-day pain. I recall getting exhausted after being on my feet for an hour or two when I was out with friends or family. I hated being the one to say, "Are you ready to go home yet?" My legs were just too tired to endure too much time on my feet.

Several years ago a friend of mine was also going through the same vein issues. She told me about the treatments she was receiving, which seemed doable. You get treatments with basically no downtime! I looked into getting treatments for myself. I was scheduled for an ultrasound and approved through insurance for the procedures. I had both legs treated with VenaCure for the larger veins and Sclerotherapy to treat the smaller veins and spider veins.

I'm happy to report that years later I'm still able to keep up with my friends and family and not have aching legs after an outing. I encouraged my sister to get her legs treated as well, and will continue to encourage anyone who is dealing with tired, aching legs to look into getting these procedures done. It's a life changer!

Anyone up for a long walk?! I am!

Treating Vein Disease to Restore Confidence

I have had vein disease most of my adult life. I got tired of the aches and pains, swelling, pressure, heaviness, and being self-conscious about my unsightly veins. It was really affecting my quality of health and life. That is when I found Dr. Prasad and the Laser & Vein center.

I scheduled my first consultation with Dr. Prasad and he talked me through every step of how he would treat my disease and eliminate my symptoms. I was excited and could not wait to start. The treatments were outpatient treatments at their spa-like clinic in Jefferson City, and were virtually painless.

Immediately following my first VenaCure I started to feel improvement and relief. I looked forward to each and every session and more success and improvement in my quality of health.

Today I feel good, I look good, and I am no longer self-conscious about wearing shorts and swimsuits. I am so happy with my success with Dr. Prasad. My wife, also a patient of Dr. Prasad, and I both feel great and enjoy walking, traveling, and being with our loved ones and friends without the stigma of vein disease.

I know many adults suffer from vein disease and it keeps getting worse as they grow older. I can assure you there is help for treating and eliminating it. Schedule your own visit with Dr. Prasad and get started!
