Sunlighten Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is an infrared sauna?

Infrared saunas use energy that is directly heating your internal tissues. There are different kinds of infrared saunas, but the most efficacious are called full spectrum saunas. Our Sunlighten full spectrum saunas have near, mid and far spectrum energy generation. When you use these wavelengths in different ratios you can achieve many different therapeutic outcomes. Most infrared saunas only offer a far wavelength, and these only heat tissue.

The full spectrum saunas can achieve blood pressure reduction, assist in weight loss, and increase the removal of heavy metal toxins from your body. They also promote more rapid tissue repair after workouts or injuries, and have also been shown to stimulate collagen production in tissues. Clients have experienced decreased joint pain when using the saunas at least twice a week, and studies have also shown a reduction in chronic fatigue syndrome symptoms.

  • Who is a candidate for using the infrared sauna?

Almost anyone can use the infrared sauna. We do not recommend using the sauna if you are pregnant, have significant heart disease, or are under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

  • How do I prepare for an infrared sauna session?

The most important thing is to be well-hydrated. Drink plenty of water before your session, as you will generally sweat a lot while you are in the sauna. You can use the sauna immediately after exercise to aid in recovery, but you must make sure you have hydrated adequately before beginning your sauna session.

  • What can I expect during an infrared sauna session?

When you have arrived, the staff will take you to the sauna. You can choose from the preprogrammed treatments, such as pain relief, cardio, relaxation, weight loss, and detoxification. The staff will select your program on the sauna and then leave you to enter the sauna. You can wear clothing in the sauna, but most people prefer to be naked as you will sweat a lot! The room is completely secure and your privacy is guaranteed. The sauna will automatically beam the correct ratios of the three wavelengths of energy to ensure the best results.

You may bring your phone, iPad, headphones, etc. into the sauna as they will not be damaged by the energy. However, we do recommend leaving anything that may distract you from relaxing as this time is for your wellness. Once the program is finished, you may exit the sauna and towel off. It is important to rehydrate yourself as you may have slight dizziness if you are dehydrated. Once you have cooled down, you may shower in our locker rooms and get dressed feeling completely relaxed and refreshed!

  • What will I need to do after my infrared sauna session?

The most important thing is to continue to drink plenty of water. It is best not to exercise after a sauna session, but you can before one. You could also get one of our signature massages after your sauna session as the sauna is a great way to warm and loosen your sore muscles and joints before completely relaxing with a massage! Many of our clients choose to book these sessions ahead of time to ensure they get the time slot they want.

  • How often should I use the infrared sauna?

Like any wellness routine, it is best to regularly utilize the infrared saunas. At a minimum, it should be used twice a week to detoxify. For active exercisers who want to maximize their performance and recoveries, 3-5 times weekly will give the best results. We do offer monthly unlimited sauna packages for the frequent sauna user.

  • Will my insurance cover infrared sauna sessions?

Infrared sauna use is not covered by insurance as it is part of a wellness routine. We do have discounted packages if you want to use the sauna regularly, as well as single use pricing. Let us know what we can do to get you the package that best suits your needs.
