Microdermabrasion is an exfoliation technique for removing the topmost layer of skin, leaving it more supple and vibrant. Microdermabrasion creates gentle abrasion and exfoliation that can smooth wrinkles and fine lines, reduce the appearance of scars, and brighten skin tone. By removing a top layer of skin, microdermabrasion is believed to stimulate the body to increase cell turnover and to produce collagen. The exfoliation can reduce light scars and acne symptoms.
If you are looking to reduce minor to moderate fine lines, treat sun damaged skin, reduce mild hyperpigmentation, control acne symptoms, or receive rejuvenation of overall skin health, a microdermabrasion series may be a good start. Microdermabrasion is a great treatment for the client who cannot have any downtime and is looking for a cost-effective treatment option. It is also a great addition to increase the effectiveness of other treatments and may be combined with chemical peels
or performed after Sublative treatments. We also often recommend microdermabrasion as part of a maintenance plan following more aggressive treatments. This treatment helps maintain good exfoliation of the skin and allows for better product absorption. While most people are a candidate for microdermabrasion, a full medical history will be taken prior to performing a microdermabrasion to make sure this treatment is right for you.
The DiamondTome Microdermabrasion System removes the topmost layer of skin by gently exfoliating the skin with natural diamond chips bonded to the tip of a wand, while vacuuming the exfoliated skin cells away in a controlled manner. Removing this outer layer leaves a smoother texture and promotes the growth of healthy new skin. Unlike other exfoliation treatments, the DiamondTome Microdermabrasion System uses no loose abrasives to contaminate you or the environment. Microdermabrasion also stimulates the vascular circulation to the surface of the skin resulting in a healthier and firmer appearance. Treatments can be performed on the face, neck, chest, hands, back, legs, elbows and feet. It can be used alone or in combination with other treatments. For best results your initial microdermabrasion treatment should be done in a series to achieve the maximum benefits.
There are really no special preparations prior to a microdermabrasion treatment. You may have to stop some topical treatment products prior to your treatment and we do ask that you avoid sun exposure or sunless tanning. We cannot treat skin with an active sunburn. Our skin care providers will go over your current medications and skin care routine prior to your treatment and make recommendations based on your needs.
Your skin will be cleansed prior to your treatment. You will feel a slight scratchy sensation as the microderm wand moves across your skin. There should be little to no discomfort. Your skin will be a little red after your treatment, but we will apply a sunscreen and sunscreen powder directly following your treatment that will help hide the redness and protect your skin.
You may resume your normal activities immediately following this treatment. You can use a mineral makeup directly after treatment and our skin care provider will make recommendations on what products you can use after the treatment is over. You can resume your normal skin care within 2 to 3 days after your treatment. You may experience some mild flaking for a few days. Be sure to avoid direct sun exposure and use a broad spectrum SPF 30 sunscreen daily.
How long the results last are very much influenced by how you take care of your skin after your treatment. The use of proper skin care and avoiding excess sun exposure and smoking will help maintain your results. Our skin care providers will make recommendations on how you can continue to benefit from the results of your procedure.
